Tall growing stately plant for the back of the herb plot. Leaves can be used dried for teas, the stems can be candied for confectionery.

In open ground in shallow drills or scatter the seeds directly onto well prepared growing site. Do not transplant. Prefers full sun.
HARVEST
When seeds are brown in colour which will be in late summer the year after sowing. Store seeds in a air-tight jar.
IMPORTANT TIP
The seeds need to be stratified before planting;
stratification
is artificially overcoming the seeds dormancy. This can be done by folding a piece of kitchen paper towel, moistening it and then placing the seeds in between. This will then need to be keep in a cool climate. You will need to ensure the towel does not dry out.
USES
Seed heads can be used dried for decorative purposes. While the leaves can be used stewed with fruits or to make tea as a tonic for colds. Leaves are aromatic so make a good pot pourri.

Finely chop leaves, then mix with chopped mint and 1 to 2 tbsp of mayonnaise, and spread thickly onto bread to make a delicious sandwich.
