Flowers purple pink June-August. Habitat: cornfields. Caryophyllaceae. Ht 1 mtr WHEN TO SOW Outside in spring. WHERE TO SOW In light soil in sun. HARVEST Harvest the seed heads which are a very attractive shape for winter dried flower arrangements. Do not allow much seed to ripen as it will spread too rapidly. Many of the Corncockles old names are no longer used such as Corn Pink, Corn Campion, Ray Nigalle, Zizany, Darnel, Tare Gith and Agrostemma. Corncockle was grown in the famous Benedictine Monastery garden at St.Gale in Switzerland which was under the protection of Emperor Charlemagne. |
