A Victorian lettuce and still as popular as ever. Small cabbage size for spring sowing which hearts up quickly and is slow to bolt.
WHEN TO SOW
End of March to early June.
WHERE TO SOW
Open ground in rows 2cm deep.
WHEN TO TRANSPLANT
Thin out seedlings as they grow to about 15cm apart. Replant thinnings into separate bed using same spacings. Plants should then be thinned out to 30cm apart.
MATURITY
First heads should be ready for cutting within eight weeks of sowings.
