BROOM (Cytisus scoparius) P Shrub/V
Long slender branches ablaze with masses of two lipped golden yellow flowers, scented of peach, from May-June. Used medicinally as a diuretic and herb tonic. The flower buds are a great delicacy pickled like capers and may also be used to brighten any salad. Seeds ground as a cofee substitute. Yields a yellow and green dye. Habitat: poor sandy soil and seashore. Ht 2 mtrs
