Grown for centuries in China. The leaves are used as lettuces, or in stir-fry and the stem for Shanghai Pickles. Try the heart of the stem in salads. It has a faint lettuce flavour and a juicy and crisp texture.

WHERE TO SOW
Sow thinly direct into growing site 1cm deep.
WHEN TO TRANSPLANT
Thin the seedlings as they grow to 15cm apart. The thinnings can be transplanted. Finally thin to 30cm apart. |
